Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) requires a quantity of two Adiabatic Demagnetization Refrigerator (ADR) units. The units will be used to test superconducting devices at 100 mK. The ADR units must be an exact replica of the four existing ADR units already being used for testing in the laboratory. NIST has made a substantial investment over the years in the development of custom cryostats, sensor mounts, flexible wiring, repair tools, EMI shielding and custom electronics that are used with these ADR units. This ADR technology was originally developed at NIST and licensed to Janis Research Company, Wilmington, MA. Therefore, NIST proposes to negotiate on a sole source basis, under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), with Janis Research for the new ADR units. No competitive solicitation is planned. Any information submitted in response to this notice will be used solely to determine whether or not use of competitive procedures to fulfill this requirement would be in the Government's best interest. This procurement is being conducted under FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures (NTE $100K). The anticipated award date is August 27, 2002.
