Description

Concerns having the ability to furnish the following equipment and services described herein are requested to give written notification (including telephone number and point of contact) to the procuring office above within forty-five (45) days from the date of this synopsis. The U.S. Geological Survey, EROS Data Center has a requirement for six (6) each of the following: Storage Tek T9940B Tape Drive (200GB capacity) #9940BL#-0000; 9741E Cabinet Tray #9940BL3-TX3E; StorageTek #9940BL3-STKO; and 4 months additional maintenance (June 2003-September 2003). This equipment will be installed in an existing Storage Tek 9310 Powderhorn robotic tape silo. The tape drives must meet the following functional and technical specifications: 9940B specification compliant, 200 GB capacity, Fibre channel interface, 30MB/sec data transfer rate, 59 sec access time, 80MB/sec compression rate, 8m/sec search speed, 70% tape motion duty cycle, 100,000 tape loads at 450 exchanges per hour, 1 x 10 (to the 18th) Bit Error Rate, and must integrate into a Storage Tek Powderhorn 9310 Library. Based on the information available at this time, and in accordance with 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1), implemented by FAR 6.302-1, the Government considers the item specified as a sole source from Storage Tek, Castle Rock, Colorado. The Government proposes to negotiate a contract with the firm on this basis. However, should additional sources be identified, they will be considered. Firms who feel that they can furnish the required item or its functional equivalent (based upon the criteria specified herein) are invited to submit in writing an affirmative response to this announcement within forty-five days after the date of publication of this synopsis. An affirmative response would include literature, brochures and such other materials which correspond to the required items stated herein. This information will be evaluated and used to determine if competitive opportunities exist. No solicitation document exists, therefore requests for such documents without accompanying information will be considered non-responsive to this request without further consideration. This notice may represent the Government's only official notice of this procurement. See Note 22.
