Description
Construct and install a security/safety handrail along the Avenue of Flags,Grand View Terrace and VC Stairwell Walls. Handrail will be constructed of dimensional aluminum tubing, Support posts will be place every 6 feet or as required (and approved by COTR) for sufficient support on curved areas. Handrail fabrication will be constructed as follows: 1) A horizontal top-rail will be crafted from 1.5 X .75 inch rectangular aluminum tubing. 2) A horizontal bottom rail will be constructed from 1 X 1 inch square aluminum tubing; will be 3.5" above grade 3) Vertical support posts will be constructed from 1X1 inch square aluminum tubing. 4) Vertical rails will be placed 12 inches on center constructed from .75 inch square aluminum tubing. 5) Vertical rails will be welded to the bottom side of the top rail and to the topside of the bottom rail. 6) All welds must be smooth as not to cause injury to visitors and staff. 7) All joints/seams of the top rail must be smooth as well for the same reasons. 8) The entire handrail system will be powder coated, black in color. 9) Support posts installed on paved areas will be placed via a 2.5 to 3 inch diameter core-drill holes and secured in the hole with a mortar or epoxy material. Color of epoxy or mortar must match surrounding masonry. 10) Support posts on paved areas will be buried at least 6 inches from grade. 11) Support posts on dirt areas will be buried at least 12 inches from grade, in 6-inch diameter holes, and secured in the hole with concrete. Concrete will be placed, not to exceed, two inches below top of excavation. Once concrete is inplace and set, backfill remaining 2 inches with topsoil from excavation and rake smooth. 12) All OSHA regulations must be followed during any work activity associated with this project. 13) As this project is in a park setting, foul language, shouting, and loud music is not permitted on the project site or within the park grounds. 14) The work site must be kept clean and orderly.
