- Description
- The USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) intends to negotiate solely with Applied Biosystems, Foster City, CA to furnish, deliver (FOB Destination) and install one (1) applied 4700 MALDI TOF-TOF Mass Spectrometer system for the Eastern Regional Research Center (ERRC) Wyndmoor, PA. This system will be used in a wide variety of research projects where detailed knowledge of plant, animal and microbial proteins, carbohydrates and genes is essential. Protein, carbohydrate and gene sequencing, or the determination of peptide, oligosaccharide and oligonucleotide structure and molecular weight, is critical for biobased products, food safety, prebiotic, dairy, genomics, proteomics and home-land security research projects. This system's capability of high-energy collision-induced dissociation (CID) fragmentation, high resolution, mass accuracy and sensitivity is critical for identification and quantitative analysis of components of complex biological samples. The 4700 MALDI TOF-TOF Mass Spectrometer system includes the following salient characteristics: operates in both linear and reflectron modes with a minimum linear TOF path length of 2.0 meters (200 cm) and a minimum 3.0 meter (300 cm) effective path length in reflectron mode; mass accuracy of 5 ppm with internal calibration, or 50 ppm with external calibration; pulse repetition rate of 20 Hz with maximum pulse width < 3 nanoseconds; and, an acceleration voltage of +25 kV and -20 kV with delayed extraction and low mass filtering. Operating software is fully integrated to allow desktop control of all relevant instrumental operating parameters. The proteomics package extracts chemically meaningful knowledge without user intervention and performs database searching for peptide mass fingerprints and/or peptide sequence tags. Companies with demonstrated capability and financial capacity to provide and service such equipment must submit a written substantive statement outlining the company's and system's capabilities to the Contracting Officer within 5 days of publication of this notice. This is not a request for proposal nor is a solicitation available.
