- The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) currently offers a margin tutorial with interactive calculators in the Investor Information section of its website (under Interactive Tools). The SEC?s Office of Investor Education & Assistance (OIEA) desires to continue offering a comprehensive, interactive learning tool that can help educate investors about the risks and rewards of purchasing securities on margin and that can also give investors meaningful, real-world examples of the consequences of trading on margin. OIEA estimates that tens of thousands of investors visit the Investor Information section of the SEC?s website, including the section that features Interactive Tools. To better serve investors, OIEA desires to continue offering a margin tutorial that explains in plain English how margin works and the risks of trading on margin.
