Description
NASA/GSFC is hereby soliciting information for potential sources for forming mandrels to be used by NASA/GSFC to fabricate mirror segments for the X-ray telescope mirror assembly/spectroscopic telescope for the Constellation-X Mission. Constellation-X has been identified as one of the top priority missions in NASA's Structure and Evolution of the Universe Roadmap. This mission has been receiving solid support from NASA because it seeks to address some of the top-priority near-term science objectives in the investigation of the universe, and because the project has made rapid progress in developing technologies to achieve those science objectives. The launch date for Constellation-X is planned for 2010. Additional information, preliminary mandrel specifications, and response instructions are contained in the MS-Word file posted with this announcement. No solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation. If a solicitation is released it will be synopsized in FedBizOpps and on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service. It is the potential offerors responsibility to monitor these cites for the release of any solicitation or synopsis. Vendors having the capabilities necessary to satisfy these requirements are invited to respond and to submit appropriate documentation, as further defined in the accompanying document. Technical questions should be directed to: Will Zhang (mandrels@milkyway.gsfc.nasa.gov, telephone 301-286-6230). Procurement related questions should be directed to: James King (james.s.king.1@gsfc.nasa.gov, telephone 301-286-6993). Please advise if the requirement is considered to be a commercial or commercial-type product. A commercial item is defined in Internet "Note A". [INTERNET ONLY (commercial product definition)] This synopsis is for information and planning purposes and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for information solicited. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation. Respondents deemed fully qualified will be considered in any resultant solicitation for the requirement. The Government reserves the right to consider a small business or 8(a) set-aside based on responses hereto. All responses shall be submitted to James King no later than May 9, 2002. In responding, please reference CON-X-MANDREL-RFI, and use the Contracting Office address provided. If preferred, responses can be emailed to the technical and procurement representatives at the addresses indicated.
