Description
The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Transcription Regulation Unit of the Laboratory of Pathology intends on entering into a sole source contract with Amersham Bioscience, 800 Centennial Avenue, Piscataway, NJ 08854 for a Ettan Spot Picker. The Transcription Regulation Unit investigate signal transduction, including examination of 2D gel spots by Mass Spectroscopy. 2D gels are used to separate proteins in a sample by both pI and molecular weight. The process of picking spots from gels are an integral part of the Transcription Regulation Unit. The Ettan Spot Picker automates the process, allowing the researchers to pick spots from gels using virtually any stain (silver, coomassie, CyDyes, Sypro Ruby). The Ettan Spot Picker features the following: 1) spot picking accuracy of 99.8% or better in a single pass filling up to 4 microtiter plates without intervention; 2) allow spot picking from gels up to 24x24 cm; 3) acts directly on ImageMaster software output; 4) uses reference markers on gel backing to ensure precise link between electronic images and actual gel; 5)perform scanning, image analysis, and spot picking independently of each other in time and space; 6)the ability to pick from 1.0 mm and 1.5 mm gels using 1.4 mm and 2.0 mm heads, minimum accuracy of +/-200 microns; 7)pick up to 9600 plugs per gel; 8)use of gel securely fixed and immobilized to present slippage and inaccurate picking, calibrate each gel to ensure highest accuracy; 9)ability to pick from previously generated pick lists (e.g. ImageMaster) as well as "click and pick" manually selected spots giving the option to pick spots on the fly and add multiple plugs to a single well if desired; 10)capable of tracking samples from gel to Mass Spectrometry target and generate list(s)transferable to downstream modules; 11)equipped with protective hood to prevent outside contamination and Windows NT compatible. Amersham Biosciences is the only source known to NCI researchers that can provide this particular instrument with the above features. However, if any intrested party believes it can meet the above requirements, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The capability statement and any other furnished information must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can fully meet the requirements herein. Capability statements must be received in the contracting office no later than 2:00 PM EST on April 16, 2002. This action is pursuant to 41 USC 253(1) and under the authority of FAR 6.302-1. The requirement will be procured as a commercial item in accordance with FAR Part 12. If you have any questions, please contact Cynthia Brown, Purchasing Agent, (301) 402-4509. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based on responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received shall be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No collect calls will be accepted. NAICS Code 421490, business size standard is 100.
