- Naval Research Laboratory has a requirement for 1 each 6 axis positioning system to consist of: 6 axes motion stage, three translation axes along XYZ and three rotation axes at the end of the translation stage around XYZ, translation on each translation stage must be accurate within 50 micrometers, rotation on each rotation stage must be better than 1 arc minute, each stage must be equipped with stepper or servo motor with intelligent control to stay within the specified accuracies, total system must be assembled so each stage is positioned orthogonal to each other so that the total specification of .1 degree and .1mm are respected, system must be installed onto a plate able to support and hook the system in place, the plate should not be over 1.4m in side, system must un-mount easily and be able to be carried by two people, system must be able to be controlled using the RS232 serial link, software GUI should be provided to control the stage from the PC, the end of the motion system should be able to support 2 lbs, maximum speed of linear stage should be over 10 inches, maximum rotation speed of the rotation stage should be 180 degrees per second or better.
