- Description
- The U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC has a requirement for rail gun testing for high G, Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) components, subassemblies and all up assemblies for evaluation purposes. The contractor shall assemble, on site, 18 GFE instrumentation stacks with contractor supplied shims, package into GFE M483 projectile bodies modified by the contractor with Ballistic Rail Gun bases and scoops. Prior to firing the test articles, the contractor shall fire one warmer round and sufficient quantity of equal mass property rounds to achieve the desired G loading required. The assembled BRG rounds shall be fired in the 155mm Howitzer based BRG. The recovered BRG projectiles shall be disassembled on site for access to the instrumentation stacks. The Government intends to award this action to Alliant Techsystems on a sole source basis. At this time, ATK is the only contractor with a working BRG suitable for the testing described above. See numbered note 22.
