- The scope of work is designed to support the preparation of the Northern San Juan Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The gas industry has proposed drilling infill wells on 160-acre spacing as opposed to the previously approved 320-acre spacing. Additionally, industry is proposing this well density within the San Juan National Forest Lands within the Northern San Juan Basin. Experience has shown that methane seepage rates along the caolbed outcrop are increaseed becsuae of Coal Bed Methane (CBM) development, and quantification of this effect is needed for the EIS. CBM development also appears to capture groundwater discharge to local rivers. While a study was done to model surface water depletions during field operations, future recharge conditions of the coalbed aquifer need to be investigated. See numbered note 1.
