Description
In-Situ Cleanup of As-Contaminated Groundwater Collaborative Research and Development Opportunity Sandia National Laboratories (Albuquerque, New Mexico) has developed an innovative means for in situ fixation of dissolved arsenic in contaminated aquifers (patent pending). The altered aquifer becomes, in effect, an in-situ 'filter' that removes dissolved arsenic from the extracted drinking water. When the effectiveness of the in-situ filter degrades, the mineral surface coatings can be recharged by another injection of chemical additives to increase the arsenic-sorbing capacity of the aquifer. We have performed laboratory column tests on this in-situ water treatment technology. This technology may be extended to include in-situ treatment of other anionic contaminants at DOE or industrial waste sites, including chromate, pertechnetate and perchlorate. Sandia desires to pursue a collaborative research and development agreement (CRADA) with an as yet unidentified commercial partner to proceed with actual field tests. We seek a partner with extensive experience in commercial in situ treatment of contaminants in groundwater aquifers. All inquiries will be considered. For further technical information, please visit our website: http://www.sandia.gov/eesector/gs/gc/SANS/index.htm. All CRADA inquiries should be sent by mail or fax to Alane Dulski by February 22, 2002 at: Sandia National Laboratories, MS 1380, P. O. Box 5800, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87185-1380. Fax: (505) 843-4163. Please indicate the date and title of this CBD notice and if your company would be interested in entering into a CRADA with Sandia.
